Notes: Pours straw yellow with a white head. Honeysuckle and yeast on the nose. Drinks delightfully dry and carbonated. Plenty of lemon and white pepper on the finish. A delicious and pitch-perfect example of the tart, Belgian wit. A delightful offering from Basserie Caracole.
Black Abbey - Miette - $14.99
Brewery: Black Abbey Brewing Company—Nashville, TN
Beer: Miette, 750ml
Style: Bourbon barrel-aged Flanders, 5.5% ABV
Notes: One of South Nashville’s best kept secrets, Black Abbey has just begun bottling from their barrel-aging program. The Miette is a wonderfully balanced, low grav bourbon barrel Flanders. Bing cherry, vanilla, and oak dominate, but with the low alcohol this brew stays refreshing and light.
SaIson de Pipaix - Brasserie à Vapeur - $6.49
Brewery: Brasserie à Vapeur—Pipaix-Leuze, Belgium
Beer: Saison de Pipaix, 750ml
Style: Saison/Farmhouse Ale, 6% ABV
Notes: Watch out, this bottle-conditioned Belgian Saison will gush when opened cold! Pours a very hazy orange-tan. Mango-like fruit and must on the nose. Crisp, slightly sweet, peppery, and floral on the palate. This beer is unpasteurized and brewed according to the original 1785 recipe: pale & Munich malts, Hallertauer hops, ginger, pepper, sweet orange, coriander and curaçao. Just as a Saison should be!
Hop Circus Vol. 3 - HiWire Brewing - $9.99
Brewery: Hi-Wire Brewing—Asheville, NC
Beer: Hop Circus Vol. 3, 22oz
Style: White IPA brewed with Passionfruit, 9.75% ABV
Notes: Surprisingly balanced for a 9.75% IPA brewed with passionfruit. Pours cloudy and yellow. The tropical fruit and wheat malt base disguise the alcohol and create a juicy, deceptively drinkable beer. The dank, white grape characteristics of the Hallertau Blanc hop compliment the added coriander and orange peel to make this a strangely appropriate winter-meets-summer brew. A perfect snowed-in-and-I-just-ordered-pizza beer.
